The Medical Power of Light

The Perfect Vascular Solution

high performance, non-ablative long-pulse Nd:YAG laser

Laser treatments are now a routine procedure for the removal of many types of vascular lesions, including hemangiomas, vascular malformations such as port-wine stains, telangiectasias, venous lakes and angiomas.

The Perfect Vascular Solution

Long-pulse Nd:YAG lasers offer the perfect solution for treating vascular lesions. Fotona’s long-pulse Nd:YAG lasers penetrate to a depth of 5-6 mm into the skin, allowing for highly effective treatments. Independent research shows that over 75% of patients with deep hemangiomas that are treated with Nd:YAG lasers see a dramatic regression in the lesion.

Safe, Effective and Minimally Invasive

The targeted chromophore for vascular lesions is intravascular oxyhemoglobin; thus, thermal damage is largely restricted to cutaneous blood vessels. The energy from the laser is absorbed by the blood in the vein, converted into heat, and the vein walls are subsequently destroyed. In comparison with other wavelengths, which mainly affect the surface layers of a lesion, Nd:YAG light also targets the underlying vascular feeding system, which is important for ensuring the long-term efficacy the treatment. This process is perfectly safe as other healthy veins supply blood to the treated area and the body’s immune system clears away the dead tissue just as with a bruise.

Superior Performance

All Fotona Nd:YAG lasers are equipped with VSP (Variable Square Pulse) technology, enabling laser energy to penetrate deeply into the skin to create thermal effects without damaging the skin surface. Compared to conventional Nd:YAG technologies, Fotona’s proprietary VSP pulses create virtually instantaneous temperature increases that are limited to the targeted structures only; no unnecessary energy is deposited into the skin.

Women develop spider veins 4 times more frequently than men. In fact, about 70 percent of adult women are afflicted with spider veins at some time in their lives.

SPIDER VEINS

Spider veins are red and purple blood vessels that occur in patches on the legs and face. Spider veins and varicose veins are not the same, and one does not necessarily lead to the other. Whereas varicose veins are large, swollen, and occur singularly on the legs, spider veins are delicate and tend to develop in clusters. Both spider veins and reticular, or “feeder”, veins deeper in the skin may cause discomfort. Spider veins usually do not pose a health threat. Although they can cause aching and discomfort, spider veins are primarily a cosmetic problem. Spider veins usually take on one of three basic patterns:

  • Tiny branch-like shape (common on inner knee)

  • True spider shape

  • Sunburst pattern (common on outer thigh)

Is There Any Downtime?

Following a spider vein laser treatment, you may experience redness, some flaking and peeling, slight bruising, and/or swelling. We will provide you with full after care instructions after your treatment.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Some patients only require one treatment however the removal of some veins and vascular lesions will require a series of treatments 3 to 6 weeks apart. The final results can be examined 3 months after the final treatment session to evaluate the outcome.

This treatment is a life changer. The comfort of having vein free legs and the freedom to wear what you want is priceless.
